The Association Between Practice Satisfaction and Professional Self-Concept in the Dental Hygiene Students

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between practice satisfaction and professional self-concept in the dental hygiene students.

Methods: A total of 78 student participants were surveyed for the study. Professional self-concept is a total of 30 questions, which means that the higher the score, the higher the self concept. Practice satisfaction were satisfaction of community practice, satisfaction of school clinical practice, satisfaction of clinic practice. Each of the five items was measured. The higher the score, the better the practice satisfaction. As the analysis methods, student t test and multiple liner regression analysis were performed to investigate the association between satisfaction and professional self-concept.

Results: There was a significant difference in the professional self-concept according to the level of practice satisfaction (p<0.05). Adjusted confounding variables, satisfaction of community practice, satisfaction of school clinical practice, satisfaction of clinic practice showed significant influence on professional self concept (p<0.05).

Conclusions: Active research is require to increase the self-concept of dental hygiene students' expertise. In particular, a systematic approach to community, school clinic and clinic practice can contribute greatly to enhancing the student's professionalism.
